Peter Sibanda

Peter Sibanda’s artistic journey started 1987 when a local librarian took him to part-time free art classes at Johannesburg Art Gallery. Today he is a finalist in Johannesburg Art City Competition and his work has covered the country. Earlier this year he was chosen by the Philatelic Services to design commemorative stamps for the South African Post Office. Sibanda’s five designs depicting important developments and improvements in the lives of South Africans are currently being used to celebrate the milestone of 10 Years of Freedom. His distinctive bright and colourful style has earned him widespread popularity and Sibanda receives many private and public commissions. He has since been commissioned by the Philatelic Service to design 2005 stamps and is currently working on a commissioned portrait of a former C.E.O of Armsco (Erasmuskloof, Pretoria). He was born in1972, Mabopane. In 1978, Sibanda moved to Lenz, before being taken in by relatives in Kosloores township from 1983-1989. He later moved to Atteridgeville from 1990-1992. Peter currently lives in Soshanguve.
